ReidSleeve for Lymphedema
Manual Lymph Drainage & Bandaging: Then What?
Once the excessive fluid is removed by the lymph drainage massage treatment, special compressive bandaging and wrapping techniques help provide a gradient pressure which keeps the swelling down. When arm size has been reduced and stabilized, a special compressive garment may be worn to help prevent the chronic swelling from returning to the arm.
Often when bandaging becomes difficult Therapists often recommend a ReidSleeve, Circaid, Solaris, or similar type garment to replace the bandaging. (see ReidSleeve page)
Some therapists may utilize a special mechanical pump called a gradient pneumatic Lymphema pump. The leading brands are multi chambered, and provide sequential compression by squeezing slightly at the fingers or toes and then pushing the fluid gently back up the extremity into the trunk and central body cavity. The top rated brands are the BioCompression Sequential Circulator, the Lymphapress, and Wright Linear pumps. All these brands meet top Medicare guidelines for a Lymphema pump.
